The HDHomeRun app is available for Android and iOS tablets, smartphones, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV streaming devices. Then, you can stream live TV to virtually any device connected to your network. An HDHomeRun is a box that you plug into your network and attach an OTA antenna. Until Plex expands live TV support, HDHomeRun users can still watch live. HDHomeRun has its own dedicated app for TV viewing, and Plex as a second option. Here is a look at how to set up your Plex DVR to record live OTA TV using an HDHomeRun device connected to your network. “Now our Plex Pass users can enjoy free live and recorded TV with local news and sports at no extra cost, and without having to purchase yet another service. Plex’s client apps, such as the Android TV version pictured here, is where you access live channels. We want to put all of your favorite content right at your fingertips whenever you’re ready to enjoy it,” said Keith Valory, CEO of Plex.

“Plex has always been about serving up the best possible media experience in one beautiful interface, no matter where you are and what device you’re using. Support for Android Mobile and Apple TV are set to follow. Support for live TV viewing in Plex starts off on iOS, Android TV, and the NVIDIA Shield. Though other apps like Channels have had the feature for a few months, Plex’s new Live TV brings the missing functionality to the home media center application.

When Plex released the DVR feature to the public, one of the missing elements was the ability to live stream over-the-air content. Combined with Plex’s DVR feature, Live TV becomes another veritable option for cord-cutters. Currently in beta, the service allows users of indoor and outdoor antennas to watch their favorite shows live through Plex.

Plex Pass users will be getting an additional benefit from their subscription today as the company announces the addition of Live TV.
